Sony’s LTO6 Tape cartridges feature a storage capacity of 2.5TB (native) to 6.25TB (compressed), with higher transfer rates of 160 MB/s(native) to 400MB/s(compressed). The new cartridge is manufactured with fine magnetic particles and a higher thermal stability binder. In order to maximize performance, an improved dispersing technology for these particles was introduced.

For LTO-1, LTO-2 and LTO-3 tape drives. LTO Universal Cleaning Cartridge. Compatible with LTO Ultrium drives, Equipped with a computer memory chip, 50 cleanings per cartridge max. For use on all LTO Ultrium 2 drives and *most LTO Ultrium 1 drives. LTO Universal cleaning tapes are equipped with a computer memory chip (just like the data tape). The chip stores various information and it has an embedded code that is recognized by the compatible drive's firmware. Once the cleaning cartridge is used to capacity (15 - 50 uses, drive dependent), the drive will no longer accept the cleaning tape and will eject the tape, prohibiting further use.

Super DLTtape I (SDLT1) is the next generation DLT tape platform. Built upon the proven success of the DLT tape system, the defacto industry standard for mid-range computing backup and archive applications. The Super DLTtape I cartridge has a native capacity of 110 GB on a SDLT 220 Drive, 160 GB on a SDLT 320 and a native transfer rate of greater than 10 MB/second. Sony’s new LTO-5 cartridge further builds on the strong performance and reliability improvements achieved in previous Sony LTO generations. Two technologies were developed to achieve these new storage requirements. The first was a newly enhanced super-fine metal particle, which leads to more stable write/read characteristics in a variety of usage environments. The other was a strong binder system with high cross-linking and abrasion-resistance, which increases the durability of the magnetic layer – helping Sony LTO5 cartridges withstand tens of thousands of passes between the head and the tape.

Sony AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) format is intelligently engineered to stand apart - no other tape cartridge features both an MIC chip (the brains) and a pure metal magnetic layer designed for maximum capacity and longevity (the brawn). The SDX3-100C features 100GB native, and 260GB compressed capacity. AIT-3 is scalable and backward compatible with previous generations.
